This resource page has been developed with the specific aim to support you - the parent, the sibling, the friend, the assistant, the community inclusion worker, the home share provider; the person who ended up here by happenstance and knows someone who could benefit. Much work is being done to make life better for those living with, or supporting someone who lives with, diverse abilities. It can be challenging to know where to go to find the right kind of information relevant to your or their situation. This page is continuously updated so check back often. Alcohol and Drug Misuse
  • Umbrella Society for Addictions and Mental Health - Peer outreach, Supportive Recovery, Family Counselling, and SAMI (an intensive case management team created by Island Health. The SAMI team works intensively with clients who frequently seek help at hospital emergency rooms, aiding with psychiatric emergencies and detox).  Umbrella Society's programs were developed to provide you with support you need from people who have experienced your struggle firsthand.

In British Columbia, adults who need help today managing their affairs may make a Representation Agreement with Section 7 standard powers, which is a legal alternative to adult guardianship. Section 7 powers include standard health and personal care matters and routine financial and legal affairs.
